Our Story
Empowering India’s Handloom and Handicraft Sector Nationwide
NCHHD (National Council for Handloom & Handicraft Development), established in 1983–84 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is an apex body representing 30 State and Central Government Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporations across the country. It functions as the National Resource Organisation (NRO) under the Ministry of Rural Development’s SVEP programme and serves as the Nodal Agency for SFURTI as well as an Implementing Agency for ESDP under the Ministry of MSME, contributing to the growth and promotion of the handloom and handicrafts sector in India.

National level Institutions
With a strong nationwide presence, NCHHD is supported by 67 field offices of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) across 30 states. It collaborates with premier institutions such as the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India as a Technical Agency and the National Institute of Fashion Technology, along with a wide network of empanelled institutes and organizations across India to effectively implement and support livelihood initiatives.

NCHHD operates through a strong grassroots network, with 55 implementing agencies across 12 states under the SFURTI programme, supported by 8 technical agencies. Additionally, 18 implementing partner organizations help carry out NCHHD’s activities across India, ensuring effective outreach and impact at the national level.
