Institutional Network of NCHHD contd.

Master Crafts Persons have been developed across various states through craft demonstration and awareness programmes, strengthening traditional skills and knowledge dissemination. In addition, designers have been nurtured through integrated design and technical development workshops conducted nationwide, enhancing innovation and product quality. The organization has also built a strong pool of resource craftspersons through structured training interventions under the Guru–Shishya Parampara across different parts of the country under the HRD scheme, ensuring the preservation and continuity of India’s rich artisanal heritage.

Engagement with Ministry of Textiles

National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP)

NCHHD actively supports the Ministry of Textiles in implementing key initiatives under the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP) across India. Its efforts include issuing Pahchan ID cards, conducting skill development and training programmes, promoting design development, providing toolkits, and organizing workshops. The organization also facilitates marketing support, engages in R&D activities, and develops essential infrastructure such as Urban Haats, craft villages, and raw material banks to strengthen the handicrafts sector.

Engagement with Ministry of MSME – SFURTI & ESDP

SFURTI

SFURTI NCHHD is the Nodal Agency for Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India for the Scheme of Funds for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI). As of now 55 Handicrafts cluster across 12 States & 51 districts are being supported by NCHHD as Nodal Agency. NCHHD has been actively extending support to the clusters through Technical agencies.

ESDP

NCHHD is the Implementing Agency for Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India for the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (ESDP). 4216 artisans across 11 states were trained under different programmes of the Scheme during FY 2023-24. More than 73,000 artisans were trained at 76 districts of 19 states during FY 2024-25.

Engagement with Ministry of Textiles

Jharokha-Compendium of Indian handicraft/ handloom, art and culture

NCHHD organized pan-India programmes such as “Jharokha – Compendium of Indian Handicrafts, Handlooms, Art and Culture” to celebrate and promote India’s rich cultural heritage under a joint initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Textiles. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, various events were held across 18 states and multiple locations, bringing together traditional art and festive spirit. Key highlights included “Umang – A Celebration of Rangoli”, which saw enthusiastic nationwide participation, and “Udaan – Kite Flying Event”, where over 1.5 crore specially designed kites symbolizing a free and independent India were created and flown across more than 70 locations with the support of artisans.

Jharokha – Celebrating India’s Craft, Culture & Heritage

Jharokha is a compendium celebrating India’s rich heritage of handicrafts, handlooms, art, and culture, organized as a pan-India initiative. The event was conducted across multiple locations in various states and Union Territories, bringing together diverse traditions and artistic expressions under one platform. It served as a vibrant celebration of traditional craftsmanship while promoting the spirit of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)” and encouraging Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation). Through its wide reach and cultural significance, Jharokha successfully showcased the unity and diversity of India’s artisanal legacy.
